What to Do When You Encounter Blue Screen and DLL Errors ?

Windows blue screens are actually error message display on Windows operating systems. These are colloquially referred to as the – Windows blue screens of death – because the error that the screen displays is usually a fatal system error, which requires a complete overhaul of the software. Windows blue screens can be caused by several problems, including data error from abrupt power loss, an illegal operation happening on the computer (such as those performed by viruses), or DLL errors, which are most common of all. Blue screens happen only in the rarest of situations, but when it does, it has to be treated seriously even if the computer restarts after the blue screen. Not getting the computer inspected can lead to more serious problems in the future.

DLL Errors

DLL, or downloadable link libraries, contain shared information that allow several systems or tasks to function in the computer. When these DLL files are moved, removed, or accidentally altered, a DLL error message is displayed, or the computer may even fail to boot properly. Common causes of DLL errors are:

When un-installing a program, make sure to include – do not delete shared DLL files – in the settings. Update hardware with higher memory and RAM capabilities. A registry cleaner that will run up a startup can automatically detect DLL errors and other things so that these will be fixed even before the problem starts.

Reinstalling Windows to Fix a Persistent Problem? – STOP! – These Options Are Much Better!

When your home or business tech guy tells you that your computer needs to be reformatted and reinstalled in order to resolve a persistent system performance, virus, or spyware issue, don’t immediately accept this as the only option. Reinstallation should be the absolute last resort after you’ve been satisfied that all the available tests and remedies have been exhausted. Not only is reinstallation option time-consuming, but in many situations it is not necessary.

Here’s how to keep your tech guy on his toes, and earning his keep. Demand definite confirmation for your techie that the following steps have been attempted:

If the computer crashes or hangs regularly and often shows a blue screen (the infamous Blue Screen of Death, or BSOD), confirm whether the techie has attempted a Windows System Restore. Unlike a full reinstallation that can take hours, the System Restore process will often revert the computer to a point in time just before the problem started, taking only minutes to run. If the same virus continues to plague your computer no matter how often the techie attempts to remove it with a virus scanner, confirm whether he disabled Windows System Restore before running the virus scan. Viruses will often hide in the System Restore files, so System Restore should always be disabled before trying to eradicate a persistent virus. The process of disabling will delete the old System Restore files (and potentially the virus), and re-enabling after a good virus cleaning will recreate a pristine set of system files.

If persistent spyware is your problem (pop-ups, web-page redirects, etc.), confirm that the techie has already tried standard Windows utility tools to address the problem. If overall system performance degradation is the issue, confirm that the techie has tried standard Windows utility tools referenced above. Oftentimes, a performance issue is due to a corrupt windows log-on profile. The log-on profile is the personal user account that you use to log into Windows. By creating a new log-on profile, making a few software application tweaks, and copying your data files from the old one to the new profile, your techie might be able to resolve the performance issue. You will need to confirm that this step was considered, or attempted. If, after attempting all the relevant steps above, it becomes necessary to do a Windows reinstallation, insist that the techie does a Repair, or “in-place” Windows reinstallation. An “in-place” reinstallation is not only quicker, but it keeps the current file system format intact, thereby making it unnecessary to spend extra time running a data backup.
