DLL Error Fix – An Easy Solution to Solve DLL Errors

Monday, May 24th, 2010

DLL errors are one of the most common problems for Windows computers and are extremely annoying. They have been an issue on Windows for as long as the system has been released, and in order to fix the problem, there’s a simple trick that you can do.

The way to fix DLL errors is to fix the parts of Windows that are causing the problem. DLL files stand for “Dynamic Link Libraries” and are basically small files which contain a series of instructions that many different programs can use. These files were introduced in Windows ‘98 to prevent programs from taking up too much hard drive space by putting all the common functions into these.dll files.

Every program you use on Windows uses DLL reference files to help them run. One of the best examples of these files in action is the functions it takes to help a program connect to the Internet. All the chat programs you have, like Skype, AIM and MSN all rely on certain .dll files to help them connect to the web, and the reason why.dll errors are caused it because many of the files these programs need can become damaged, corrupted or lost.

The problem you are seeing is that whenever you want to use a program, it’s needs to use various DLL files in order for it to run. And unfortunately, Windows has a habit of replacing these files with older versions or just losing the files, making them unable to be loaded. This causes your PC to become unable to read the files it needs, slowing it down and making it have various .DLL errors. Fortunately, there’s a way to fix this by fixing the links that windows has with these files.

To fix DLL errors, you need to fix the corrupt file and the references that Windows has to that file. And this is all done with a ‘registry cleaner’ which is a software tool that scans through the system files of Windows and fixes all of the damaged files that are inside it. These tools work very well to fix DLL errors as they replace all the outdated DLL files with fresh ones and correct the paths that Windows has to the files. You can download these tools off the Internet and allow them to clean through your PC. They will show you the number of errors that are inside it and allow you to fix them automatically.

Protect Your Computer and Keep Your PC Safe and Secure With Computer Support

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Most often we tend to assume that hackers are interested only in our data but the fact is that they can be interested in the hard drive storage and in the Internet connectivity. They can smartly use our resources and make us easy prey of their menace. So it is an imperative for all computer and Internet users to ensure a safe and secure PC using computer support tips.

For ensuring a secure PC you need to follow some basic tips suggested by the tech support team. If you face in difficulty in acting on these tips you can always call up to the 24/7 computer support experts. All you need to do is to tell them about your computer components and they will recommend and explain each and every step so that you can ensure your computer security.

If you have not set your administrator password in Windows go ahead and set a password to make your PC secure. Many computer users make their online presence vulnerable by using weak password and sometimes by using no password at all. Viruses and hackers scan the computers on the Internet to look for computers with no admin password and choose it as their entry path when they find such a computer. So the computer support experts suggest securing your computer with a strong admin password. When you install Windows admin account is automatically created but if you can not remember that go to Start->Control Panel->Users & Passwords and change the admin password and make it one containing at least seven letters, symbols or characters.

You must keep your Anti-virus software updated. Most often people assume their computers to be safe because they have anti-virus software installed to their PC even if the software is not updated for a year. But to make the PC secure against any malicious attack the anti-virus software needs to be configured to update and scan each day. Paid anti-virus can be used by renewing after the needed time and the free anti-virus software is also not bad if these are updated with the latest virus definition.

Ensure that your computer operating system is capable of automatic Windows Updates. Microsoft finds vulnerabilities in their operating systems which need security patches to fix. These come as the Windows Updates. If the PC is not configured to download these updates automatically the system will be vulnerable to serious security flaws. Make sure the PC is configured in the right way to download these updates. You can check it going to the Start->Control Panel->Automatic Updates.

You can easily install a router which can protect the PC from outside network. When a router is installed the router is assigned with the public IP address and faces the outside network instead of the PC. The router hides the computer from outside network by giving it an internal IP address and it also filters out the anonymous attempts that try to connect the PC.

Reinstalling Windows to Fix a Persistent Problem? – STOP! – These Options Are Much Better!

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

When your home or business tech guy tells you that your computer needs to be reformatted and reinstalled in order to resolve a persistent system performance, virus, or spyware issue, don’t immediately accept this as the only option. Reinstallation should be the absolute last resort after you’ve been satisfied that all the available tests and remedies have been exhausted. Not only is reinstallation option time-consuming, but in many situations it is not necessary.

Here’s how to keep your tech guy on his toes, and earning his keep. Demand definite confirmation for your techie that the following steps have been attempted:

If the computer crashes or hangs regularly and often shows a blue screen (the infamous Blue Screen of Death, or BSOD), confirm whether the techie has attempted a Windows System Restore. Unlike a full reinstallation that can take hours, the System Restore process will often revert the computer to a point in time just before the problem started, taking only minutes to run. If the same virus continues to plague your computer no matter how often the techie attempts to remove it with a virus scanner, confirm whether he disabled Windows System Restore before running the virus scan. Viruses will often hide in the System Restore files, so System Restore should always be disabled before trying to eradicate a persistent virus. The process of disabling will delete the old System Restore files (and potentially the virus), and re-enabling after a good virus cleaning will recreate a pristine set of system files.

If persistent spyware is your problem (pop-ups, web-page redirects, etc.), confirm that the techie has already tried standard Windows utility tools to address the problem. If overall system performance degradation is the issue, confirm that the techie has tried standard Windows utility tools referenced above. Oftentimes, a performance issue is due to a corrupt windows log-on profile. The log-on profile is the personal user account that you use to log into Windows. By creating a new log-on profile, making a few software application tweaks, and copying your data files from the old one to the new profile, your techie might be able to resolve the performance issue. You will need to confirm that this step was considered, or attempted. If, after attempting all the relevant steps above, it becomes necessary to do a Windows reinstallation, insist that the techie does a Repair, or “in-place” Windows reinstallation. An “in-place” reinstallation is not only quicker, but it keeps the current file system format intact, thereby making it unnecessary to spend extra time running a data backup.

If time is money in your home or organization, then you certainly can’t afford to be without the use of your computer for a long time. Minimize your downtime by being proactive with your tech support, whether it’s someone from your IT Dept., an independent consultant, or a service company like Tee Support. Running through the remedies above with your tech support, will go a long way in saving you time and aggravation.

Two Essential Ways to Speed Up Windows 7

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Windows 7 is one of the newest operating systems to be released, and has a lot of new features to match. However, its not immune from the problem of running slow and fixing this issue is something that more and more people are looking to do every day. Fortunately, there are 2 easy ways to speed up Windows 7:

1) Perform An Antivirus Scan - Viruses are a hidden threat to many Windows 7 computers because there are so many new ways for these infections to get into this system. It’s well documented that even the newest computers can easily get infected with viruses, which constantly run in the background of your system and slow your computer down. Viruses are basically small software applications which install themselves on your computer and proceed to use all the resources of your system, making it run slower and slower.

To fix this problem, you should perform an antivirus scan as soon as possible to rid your PC of any potential infection. There are many different antivirus scanners out there, and to use them you just need to download one from the Internet and let it scan your system. It will scan through all the files on your PC and seek out any of the viruses that are prone to lurking on there. The best antivirus programs will be able to remove even the most virulent of infections and improve Windows 7’s performance in the process.

2) Clean Out The Registry - The registry is also a big cause of a slow system. The registry is a central database which stores the settings, information and options for Windows and is a very important part of your computer. Every time you use your computer, the registry is constantly being opened and read to help your system recall a variety of different errors. However, it’s also one of the main causes of your system running slowly. Because your computer needs to recall so many registry settings each time you use your computer, Windows is often confused and saves many of them in the wrong way, corrupting them and damaging them.

Some computer experts estimate that corrupt registry settings are the cause of 95% of slow computers, and it’s a problem that even Windows 7 cannot escape. To fix this issue, you should use a ‘registry cleaner’ program to scan through the registry database and fix any of the damaged files that are causing problems. You should download one of these software tools from the Internet and then let it scan through your PC to find all the damaged files that are inside it. If you use a cleaner and it finds 500+ errors, then it’s advisable that you let it fix the errors it finds.

My Computer Makes Me Crazy

Monday, May 17th, 2010

A few months ago, a friend bought a new computer because his old one was too slow. I offered to take a look at it and he said, no. It’s beyond help. Besides he wanted a new spiffy computer anyway.

Within a matter of weeks, he was growling about the dreadful new computer and how much he hated Windows Vista. He asked me to come over and get that pesky Vista off his computer and install XP. I went and took a look at his computer.

I bet you know what the problem was. On his new computer he was going to the same favorite places that he went to on the old computer. The antivirus program definitions were out of date. So the threats he was encountering on the old computers were now being invited to enter his new system.

They were not hugely dreadful viruses that he was letting in but minor worms, spyware, and adware. Picture the problem like what would happen if you poured grease down your drain and then let some coffee grinds and carrot peeling follow the grease. Your sink would drain slower and slower and slower until it just stopped draining altogether.

The sink solution is easy – you buy a drain cleaner of some sort and let it do its magic and dissolve the sludge and soon your drain is clean and fast just like the old days. For the computer, there are precautions you can take but if you don’t, there are programs that let you clean it up so it is like new. The speed will surprise you.

Computer Speed and Your Registry

Monday, May 17th, 2010

My pal, Jim, is pretty savvy with computers in many ways and has been able to perform a variety of tasks that keep his machine pretty speedy. He really dislikes a slow computer. He does the usual cleanup on his windows XP system weekly and backs up his important files to an external hard drive every Friday.

He keeps his antivirus program virus definitions updated. He’s knowledgeable enough to fix small problems and wise enough to stay away from big problems. One day however, he tried to follow some online instructions about cleaning his registry himself and deleted a couple of entries. Well, we are not sure just how many he deleted. It could have been one registry entry.

I gave him a quick lessons on cleaning the run entries…

Run Type in regedit When the registry editor shows up, go to:

o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
o Remove everything in the right hand pane except DEFAULT and those entries referring to your antivirus program

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

o Remove everything in the right hand pane except DEFAULT and those entries referring to your antivirus program

Huh? All Greek to you?

There are programs that can do this for you without danger of making a mistake. After all, we all have our own strengths and weaknesses. Why add on more aggravation for ourselves? I keep telling my sister the nurse who always says “Oh I am so bad with the computer,” Well, you should see me giving needles.”

There are many things we can learn to do on our own computers to speed them up - the equivalent of me learning how to give someone an Aspirin. And there are many programs we can learn to use to do the hard work for us. I’ve done a lot of research for you and can recommend some steps you can take.

This Christmas, Stay Away From PC Viruses

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Christmas is that time of the year when everyone is in a frenzy buying gifts for everyone on their list. The holidays is also the time when millions of people all over the world use shipping companies to send gifts to their families and loved ones. However, a computer virus is now spreading around in emails which target people who use courier services for their presents. These computer viruses may not be harmful to your health like body viruses, but they can sure be harmful to your wallet. Experts estimate that computer viruses cost Americans hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

Roland Mahaffey, Geek Squad manager at Sherman’s Best Buy says that “viruses and software removal are about 98% of the work that we do at the Geek Squad.” Mahaffey says that the easiest way your computer can be damaged is through viruses on the Internet. Recently, a virus which first surfaced several years ago is making a reappearance which is already wreaking havoc on computer users everywhere.

The virus works by sending an email which appears to be from couriers like FedEx or UPS, saying that a package you have sent can’t be delivered, and asks you to click on an attachment to print out an invoice. What users do not know is clicking on the attachment will already activate the virus which can be greatly damaging to your computer. Effects can range from simply slowing down your computer to complete system failure of your whole computer. To prevent being victimized by computer viruses, it is best to contact the courier company directly with whom you have sent a package to check the status of your delivery. Always make sure that you do not click on any attachments especially if you are not sure about the source of the email.

Those who have encountered viruses through email in the past are now more cautious when it comes to opening email from unknown senders. Computer experts say that this is a good strategy as you never know when a strange email will turn out to be harmful to your computer. You can also take advantage of numerous and cyberdefender free download available on different Internet sites. The holidays is a time for merry cheer, and not having to worry about computer viruses gives you one less thing to think about during this already very frenzied season.

Business Computer Security Tips – How to Protect Against Viruses and Other Threats

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Security Software Provides Non-Stop Protection

It is impossible for IT staff to monitor and react to threats against the system. Any modern business needs security software to protect the system around the clock. An anti-malware application keeps malicious software from installing itself, whether it comes from a site exploiting a browser vulnerability or from a user installing spyware masquerading as a game.

Modern anti-malware applications have moved beyond the signature technology of the past. They react to suspicious behavior, protecting the system from new viruses or spyware automatically. Automatic updates ensure the software has the information on the latest security threats and can react accordingly. Today’s applications run efficiently, putting little strain on the system and doing their jobs quietly in the background.

Creating And Enforcing Security Policies

You can’t expect users to make smart decisions about computer use. Even experienced computer professionals can compromise system security if they don’t have the guidance of companywide security policies. Rules on subjects such as third party software, password complexity or authorization to work from home should be spelled out in no uncertain terms and distributed to all employees.

One essential part of the organization’s security policy should deal with software updates. New vulnerabilities are discovered every day and patches plug these holes and protect your system. Pushing updates from a central server allows more control over end user systems but often increases the burden on IT staff. Reputable malware applications include automatic update capability to allow user computers to stay current without requiring IT intervention.

The Best Security Is A Padlock

Don’t put all your faith in security software. Many intruders still break into businesses the old fashioned way: with a crowbar. Once inside they have free access to all your computers, which is why any computer security program should also include physical measures. Not only should the building be locked, but individual offices should be locked as well. The more obstacles in a person’s path, the less likely the intruder will successfully steal information or erase information.

Outside intruders aren’t the only threat. Servers should be in a secured room with only authorized IT staff allowed access. Disgruntled workers can cause serious harm to a server, but an even bigger threat is often the helpful employee who took an Access class two years ago and is convinced he can fix the database.

Computer security is too important to be treated as an afterthought. Don’t wait for disaster to strike to realize you need to secure your company information. Instead, consider installing malware protection as the central piece of a comprehensive security plan.

Is Your Slow Computer Driving You Crazy? Slow Computer Tips

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Dealing with slow computers can turn out to be a painful and frustrating task. However, you can manage it just fine if you know how to go about fixing things up. For starters, try and understand some basic slow computer fix tips, which help you in cases when your computer gets hung up in the middle of some important work.

Registry is one of the most important things that need to be sorted for a slow computer fix. Many people tend to neglect this, but the fact is that most of the blue screens and other errors that come up on your computer are because of a faulty registry program. Thus, it is really important to get a proper registry scan done. Also, you need to ensure that your computer has a good anti-virus program.

A good anti-virus program not only helps to heal the viruses that have already attacked your computer, by it also helps you to know about potential dangers from any website that you are browsing, or any application that you are about to run, or any file that you are about to download or open. Viruses can cause computers to slow down, so regular virus scans are very important.

Similarly, regular defragmentation is also important for your computer so that you can get rid of the junk files and the corrupted files that are taking up a lot of space on your disk. For slow computer fix, also try and get all your programs and software updated to the latest version, because a lot many times, older versions of software or programs turn out to be the reason for your computer to run slowly. You must also always try to be careful about shutting down your computer properly each time, and not in a hurried way before the safe shutdown screen flashes.
